Safe Sparring Policy

Sparring and training in combat sports carries inherent risks. Although we are providing a training facility these rules are in place to ensure that participants enjoy a safe and positive training experience

The following rules apply to all participants at Open Sparring, and is a condition of membership. Failure to comply with these rules may result in a revocation of membership or participation at our gym

If you notice that these rules are being breached by any participant, please do not hesitate to get in touch with a staff member

No hero policy

  • All egos are to be left at the door. This is a training space, not a proving ground
  • Overly aggressive and dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated and you may be asked to leave the gym

Train safely

  • Your personal safety is your priority and responsibility, but train with the welfare of your partner in mind
  • Adhere to the rules as agreed between you and your partner
  • Match your partner's level of intensity
  • Mouthguards are to be worn when training
  • Use appropriate apparel and gear

Keep it hygienic

  • Be considerate of your training partners and keep yourselves and your apparel clean
  • Do not train when sick
  • No jewellery when training
  • Properly wrap up any cuts with tape

Respect other sparrers

  • Regardless of level of experience or affiliation, please be courteous and respectful to one another
